hi flisters.

i'm going to bore you with an opinion.

i know you all love your fanfic. heck, i loves my fanfic (and no, not MY fanfic, but y'know, the stuff that everyone else makes that i get to read)

but i really, really, REALLY loves me some graphic art. like, big time.

but y'know, i suspect you've guessed that by the amount of wallpapers i've spammed my LJ with over the years...

and i love it, just love it when people comment... good or bad, indifferent, don't care. just like to hear from you on what the art made you feel/think.

i'm also way okay with folks who want to use my pieces in their music videos, because hey, i *adore* fanvids. they're like, fanfic in motion pictures.

however... i do very much appreciate getting CREDIT for my work when it's put into a video ... and of course, it'd be nice to be asked first... especially if maybe, possibly, the piece of art in question is associated elsewhere (like, with a story or something.)

so yeah. in the future: vidders... please, feel free to come to me and ask for permission to use my artwork in your vids, because i'll most likely say "yes".

but, on the other hand, other artists might not feel as i do, and it's beyond uncool to grab their hard work and stick in in yours, just because you think it's cool. credit where credit's due, everyone.

we all thank/disclaim/credit the original creators of these shows/books/movies/etc so let's give the same courtesy to the fan artists.

thank you.

i now return you to your regularly scheduled flist stuff.

an article on the consumerist: http://consumerist.com/5210378/amazon-gay-book-removal-was-massive-prank-i-did-it-claims-troll

whether it's true or not, i feel an obligation to report on it, since it offers one possible reason for the serious FAIL.

i'm not usually an activist poster. in fact, it generally takes a great deal to get me grumpy enough to do something, but THIS bears remarking. in case i haven't made it obvious, i wrote a book. now, i know it's not the greatest book on the planet, but i happen to be pretty damned proud of it, and to have amazon.com decide, "oh, screw you, we're just going to make sure no one can ever find it without a map, a compass, and the luck of the Nine Gods of Galikor," is beyond the pale. yeah, it might seem like no big deal... just search for it among the "books" tab, but... amazon has made it their business practice to be "easy to search" so sorting via some arbitrary "amazon rank" applied with a sticky, dirty tar brush to everything with the so-called "scary words" in them is a little overblown. it isn't a business' job to censor what it sells... it is the task of the buyer to be aware of what they may encounter.

and yes, i know the update is that it's a "glitch" but i think this is worthy enough to comment upon, even if that turns out to be the case.

For those on my flist who are fans of the series Bad Girls, the musical soundtrack (which I found at amazon.com for about $20 used) is pretty good. The storyline of the musical is slightly different from the first three seasons, but the Helen/Nikki romance is there, and there's a lovely duet between them.

The song that moved me the most though was Julie's "Sorry". I quite liked Crystal's "Freedom Road" too.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mommies and Mommies-to-be out there in F-lister land :)

so anyway. i've been watching these shows... blood ties on lifetime, painkiller jane on scifi and dante's cove (this one is on Here!TV which i don't get, so i see it via netflix)

they've all gone one thing in common.

camp. yep. they're schlock tv at its funnest. i've heard some griping and groaning about blood ties and PKJane... but sheesh. they're not Discovery TV or PBS... they're genre shows with kick butt characters who go out and beat up on monsters and people with superpowers... how intellectual is it supposed to be? LOL

anyway... if you're into campy shows with kick butt characters, give 'em a looksee.

in other news... i am still slogging away at Freedom's Sight (sequel... ugh, i hate that term, it's not really a sequel because the same characters aren't the main characters... but it takes place in the same world as Banshee's Honor) anyway... i had a couple of good betas but one of them got an attack of Real Life... which hey, I totally understand because who hasn't been whupped upside the head by Life, hmm? but the other beta isn't digging the whole Fantasy theme of Freedom's Sight, which you know if it's not your bag, that's cool.

so anyway... i'm trying to figure out where to look for a decent beta. so if you read my blog, and you've read my books/fics and you're good at beta reading, and you wanna volunteer, drop me a line :) i could use the kick in the butt LOL.

it's a milestone worth marking.

last night, i hit 200 pages of text on my new story. as of now, in my mental calculations, i'm at least half done with the story.

yay me.

now, i am going to have some cereal and then pass out for at least 8 hours.

just finished watching the x:wp episode, "to helicon and back" ... mmph. yummy gabrielle. yeesh. even after all these years, renee o'connor can still do it for me ;)

anyway, i just wanted to give a bit of kudos to the director/whoever decided to make sure gabrielle held on to her weapons all the way until the bitter end and beyond. that little bit of visual fun really sets in stone just how far the bard has come from wee waif to warrior. :)

and again, i say... gabrielle mmmmmmmmmm hot. even bloody, singed and soul-battered. (love renee's emoting in this one.)
shaych_03: (xg family)
so anyway. here i am again, pretending i have an interesting life LOL

but i had to be all bouncy happy because i've written 117 pages of a new story and i'm still not running out of steam. yay me :)

i'm also pondering the choice of reading a bit more of the fun and candy-for-my-brain book, terrors on the high seas, or if i want to watch the just as fun, but less candy and more angsty-owie x:wp eps of path of vengeance/to helicon and back...

ooo lunch. hmm. distractions, distractions...
shaych_03: (casey)
so anyway... i don't post here much, and that makes me a boring person, i'm sure.

i've been writing. duh. writer...writes. no surprise, hey? well... what i've been working on is another story set in the same world as my published (glee face, hello, yes, i need you again ... :D ) work, Banshee's Honor. so that's why i haven't posted anything... fannish. i'm still into fan stuff, i just have to bow to a greater muse at the moment.

if anyone has bought/read the published version of banshee and would like to comment on it, i'd love to hear from you :)

...i need new icons :/ maybe i'll work on that too LOL

WTF is up with this season of television? every time i turn around, they're axing a main character.

did hollyweird just suddenly get a big death scene fetish or what? oy vey.
shaych_03: (oneofthosedays)
To everyone who celebrates, Happy Merry :)

and for those who don't, well, have a great day anyway :)

(off to crochet a... oh wait, i finished that... *whew* okay, off to while away an hour or so until i can sleep for a bit ...)

B5/Crusade

Well, I've done it. I've seen all there is to see of the Babylon 5 universe. And now, I am suffering from let-down.

Not because of the quality of the shows... no. As many rumors as I read concerning the lack of quality for Crusade or even season five of B5, I gotta say... I was hooked all the way through.

The writing, visuals, acting... was all very top notch. I wanna write stuff this engrossing when I grow up.

No, my let-down is based entirely in the fact that it's over. There's nothing more.

Reading the published books (unless we're talking about JMS' script books) seems somehow... compromising. This universe was developped as a visual medium, with the idea of creating a novel for television... and it works so well that way, that I'm not sure that it would play out as well in a paper and ink book.

In any event, I do not regret immersing myself in this world. I've learned a great deal just by watching and listening to JMS tell his story.

I can only hope that he'll get the chance to do it again... I'd love to see another B5 series... The story's never completely over :)

oy. i ache. i just got back from merchanting at an SCA event. it was the 40 year beltane celebration event for the west kingdom. it was held up in cloverdale, and let me just say... COLD. oh my stars and bards, it was cold.

i actually stayed in long sleeves almost all the time.

i never do that at events.

it was 5 days long, though, which was fun :) met some very nice folks who were merchanting next door to us, and it was so nice to have help to take down our (notso) EZ up.

now we must decide whether we're up for turning around and doing coronet in two weeks...

oy.
shaych_03: (vorlon)
netflix. oh do i love thee netflix. but our mail carrier must be um... blind or something.

for the last two deliveries, i've been shorted on my netflix movies and BOTH times for tv series (babylon 5 :D ) and what do i end up with? yep, you guessed it. out of sequence.

this time it's the last two of the season...

what. the. fuck.

argh.

tech gripe

ya know, some days, i think all things tech hate me.

my laptop monitor is on the fritz. i open it, turn it on and the darn thing flickers until i open and close it a few times.

it's probably a short somewhere, but how in the hell do you fix that? LOL i'm just hoping the extended warranty i bought covers it.

if not, i'm gonna have to figure out how to run a regular monitor out of this laptop.

then tonight, i go to record Criminal Minds and CSI:NY and i swear i saw the little "REC" flash on the screen. the red "recording" light was on. i saw "slp" on the screen.

but the tape? has nothing. nada. zip, zilch. last week's stuff.

what. the. frak?

grrr!

Babylon 5

Infreakingcredible. I've just watched the first four seasons of Babylon 5 and I'm just totally blown away by how good this show is.

If you haven't seen it, do. If you have, see it again :)

I've not seen it's like before, or since.

I can see how the finale of season four was set up to be a capable series finale if the show had not been renewed. I look forward to the history that is filled in by season five.

A-freaking-mazing.

Maybe someday, I will write like this. Maybe.
