Graphic Art thoughts.

hi flisters.

i'm going to bore you with an opinion.

i know you all love your fanfic. heck, i loves my fanfic (and no, not MY fanfic, but y'know, the stuff that everyone else makes that i get to read)

but i really, really, REALLY loves me some graphic art. like, big time.

but y'know, i suspect you've guessed that by the amount of wallpapers i've spammed my LJ with over the years...

and i love it, just love it when people comment... good or bad, indifferent, don't care. just like to hear from you on what the art made you feel/think.

i'm also way okay with folks who want to use my pieces in their music videos, because hey, i *adore* fanvids. they're like, fanfic in motion pictures.

however... i do very much appreciate getting CREDIT for my work when it's put into a video ... and of course, it'd be nice to be asked first... especially if maybe, possibly, the piece of art in question is associated elsewhere (like, with a story or something.)

so yeah. in the future: vidders... please, feel free to come to me and ask for permission to use my artwork in your vids, because i'll most likely say "yes".

but, on the other hand, other artists might not feel as i do, and it's beyond uncool to grab their hard work and stick in in yours, just because you think it's cool. credit where credit's due, everyone.

we all thank/disclaim/credit the original creators of these shows/books/movies/etc so let's give the same courtesy to the fan artists.

Shay, if it was done with a piece of written word it would be classed sd plagarism, isn't it the same for artwork? Surely there is a case for getting it removed and them censured or something? I personally think it's just bad manners not to ask first before taking.

well here's the thing. fan art, fan writing is so wobbly to begin with, i don't want to start a pissing match. what i want is for people to give credit where it's due, and not treat the graphic artists like their work is akin to fancy screencaps.

it was rude. and really, shows how graphic arts in fandom is treated like the red headed step child. fanfiction is the king, queen, prince and princess. graphic art is just the lowly peon who sits in the corner and babbles, i guess.

Yes we are the red headed step children..I know how irritating this can be believe me..my problem is most of the time I'm to quiet to say anything about it when it happens to me..

i think we need to stop being quiet and calmly ask for the recognition we're due when things like that happen.

what would happen if we stopped making art, icons, banners, wallpapers?
