i just checked my yahoo mail and discovered that Majel Barrett Roddenberry has died...

she was, for me, the voice of so many of my favorite tv moments, whether as the steady voice of the ship's computer on many incarnations of Star Trek, or as the incomparably complicated Lwaxana Troi... whatever future there may be for Trek... it will be lessened by her absence.

yeah... she'll be the third, i believe, of the "Original" folks... De Kelly, then Jimmy Doohan... I know that some folks with smaller parts have passed, but she's a "big" name that everyone knows...

Yeah, I was very sad to find this out too. I told the hubby (who is a bigger fan of Trek than me) and he was a bit cold about it, saying "eh, I didn't know her." What an ass! He didn't know Johnny Carson but I had to hear about him drone on about how it was sad he had died.

The Star Trek Franchise will not be the same without her involvement. She will be sadly missed IMO.

I've heard that she did finish recording the 'voice' of The Enterprise for the new movie. (coming in May 09)

So I'll probably get a pang of sadness when I hear it while watching the movie for the first time.
