i have a dvd player? LOL and cable tv. my mom's cell phone is older than my nephew.
as for how i do my walls... i start with caps... and clean them up and repaint them in photoshop... for various "parts" (hands, etc) i will reference source material like other caps or even magazine and candid photos... cut/paste/paint. i use the clone brush for some stuff, the "fuzzy" eraser a lot... and the blur/sharpen/smooth brush... the smooth brush especially... it's my "paintbrush" it's what i use to push the pixels around and blend them smooth so that the graininess of the caps goes away.
then i apply a number of filters to give the image the "artsy" look :)
not so much the color channels, etc. i'm still learning ... i use the layers and blending options a lot tho
