on the dynamics of "ow"

monday, early - around 5 am, pain hit me - tore me in 2, it seemed. spent all day fighting it, that afternoon, i had endured enough, went to the hospital. this turned out to be the right move.

after all the rigamarole of the triage and waiting room, the tests and ultrasound revealed that my gall bladder was about to explode. surgery. good drugs. missing time (i was under for 2.5 hours) sore. nauseated. throat hurts (intubated) but i'm ok.

i'm really ok. the pain now is good pain. healing pain.

i guess sometimes life says, "hi, time for a massive about face." :)

i've learned that there is pain worse than face pain. i've learned that surgery isn't scary. and i've learned that i have really, really deep veins and that i never want to have an IV again.

hope everyone else's week went a lot better.

*hugsback* thanks :) yes, it was freaky... especially how damn fast dilaudid works... yikes... the verycute nurse was still pushing it in and i was flyin' high... easy to see how people can become addicted to the feeling. i will rest up and take my boring tramadol and get healthy again. do not want to experience another surgery, ever.

I already commented below, but saw the dilaudid and tramadol comments, so I had to say something.

That dilaudid is some good stuff. I was on a dilaudid pump for three days after abdominal surgery. I was quite dismayed to find out how excruciating my pain was after they took me off of it. At least they sent me home with Percocet. Tramadol? Seriously, they might as well have sent you home with children's aspirin. I sure hope it works better for you than me! I've got a bottle of it sitting here going to waste.

the tramadol takes the edge off, and i'm allowed ibuprofen, which is my painkiller of choice, so i'm all good :)

i'm actually not at all fond of narcotics, so i was happy to see the tramadol over the nightmare inducing morphine...
